Fibre coverage has moved quickly, driven by Eir’s rural build, the SIRO joint venture using ESB’s electricity network, and National Broadband Ireland’s state-subsidised intervention area. Virgin Media’s upgraded cable still carries much of urban Dublin. The remaining weakness is the long tail of rural copper still awaiting fibre.
